what to expect

I come to your home with my portable massage table and stool. You remain fully clothed as you relax on the comfortable, padded massage table. I begin by gently holding your feet to monitor the rhythm of the fluid that is flowing around your central nervous system.

By carefully listening with my hands to locate areas of weak fluid or tissue motion, I can intuitively trace those areas of weakness through the body to the original source of dysfunction. I usually move up the body, sliding one hand under the back and placing the other on the front, palm down to release the pelvic diaphragms and any energy cysts. Restrictions in the craniosacral system are then addressed. Delicate manual techniques are used to release problem areas, and improve the form and function of your central nervous system. Clients usually experience deep relaxation, and sometimes experience emotions.

At the beginning of the first session, you are welcome to talk or not talk as you feel most comfortable. Some prefer to tune in to what they are feeling as we connect. Depending on what I’m feeling with my hands, I may ask you questions or ask you to pay attention to what you’re noticing in your body to facilitate your own healing. As you progress with sessions, I may ask you to talk more. The body releases differently when the energy, brain activity, and muscle movement of communication, particularly of feelings, are involved. Journaling is another example of the benefits of this process.

With infants, I usually begin working with the mother holding or nursing the baby while they become accustomed to my touch and evaluation. The mother’s connection grounds and comforts the baby. At some point, we transition to me holding the baby, then to a place such as a diaper changing station, where I can stand. I may need your assistance staying connected and comforting the infant. I will place a gloved finger in the baby’s mouth to evaluate and treat their latch, while addressing their head or neck with my other hand. Infants are prone to crying while receiving craniosacral therapy and we believe this is the communication process taking place which includes the releasing of emotion or events held in the tissue.
